The Duncan Lady Demon volleyball team is off to a 2-0 start after defeating Cement on the road Tuesday evening. Duncan won all three games to take the match 3-0.
Bree Fritschow had seven kills, three aces and three digs to lead the Lady Demons. Duncan head coach Randi Pawpa said she was pleased with her team’s performance.
“The girls played really well,” Pawpa said. “It was good to go 3-0 and finish the match off because that’s something we’re working on.”
Pawpa said the team jumped out to a big lead in the first game and wound up with a 25-15 win.
“I felt like we pretty much took care of business and played really well in the first game,” said Pawpa.
The next two games were a little closer, as Duncan won the second game 25-21 and the third 25-20. Duncan trailed 21-18 in the second game before Britton Scott served out the game.
“We made a few mistakes in the second game,” Pawpa said. “They served it up and we had some passing errors, but we rallied and Britton served for us from 18-25 to finish out the game. It was nice to see that.
“I think they felt the pressure a little bit,” she said. “They made a few mentals mistakes, but we told them to play to win, not to play to make mistakes, and they did.”
The Duncan JV team fared just as well with a 2-1 victory, winning games two and three after losing the opening game. The freshmen team lost its match in two games.
Duncan’s next match will be on the road Thursday at Big Pasture, a place the Lady Demons have never won. Game time is set for 4 p.m. and Pawpa said it is the Lady Demons “goal to come back with a win.”
