The Veterans Bat 12U Softball team stands with their rings after winning the Comanche Sports League title 3-2 this past Monday evening. The team was selected as DSPAC Team of the Week for being the first of nine division champions for the Comanche Sports League.

The end of the spring 2022 season for the Comanche Sports League is finishing up this week and the first to win a league crown was the Veterans Bat 12U Softball team, which won 3-2, and finished the season undefeated.

Veterans Bat 12U is one of the divisions in the Comanche Sports Group that play at the new DSPAC fields which just opened earlier this month. The Veterans Bat 12U team received selection as the DSPAC Team of the Week.

The lead coach for Veterans Bat, Coach Aaron Evans, and his team, who has been together for at least five years, went through some changes but are happy they came together to win the rings.

“We went undefeated this year and lost a few girls that decided not to play this year and had to pick up some younger girls, but they really got better throughout the year and helped us,” Evans said. “We had played the teams we had played in the championship twice already and both of those games were pretty close, so we knew they were really not wanting to lose to us again. They came out and they had the lead for the first two innings and we had to comeback and tie the ball game up. We got the lead and then they came back in the last inning and tied the game up and we had to play an extra inning. We wound up getting a run across to win so it was a walk off in the last inning and it was a good game for a championship game.”

With this team, some of the members have been together since the first year kid pitch. Evans is excited to see his team progress in the circle and hitting in a timely manner to win some games.

“Now we are getting it down to where we are not walking very many people and putting the ball into the play and being aggressive at the plate,” Evans said. “Last night’s game was a 3-2 game and it is a huge difference when your pitchers start throwing strikes instead of walking everyone and that comes with age.”

This team will now represent the Comanche League as part of PAC Sports for the Oklahoma State Championship tournament a few weeks from now and Evans is excited to get them ready for the next level.

“By winning the league last night, we qualified for the State Tournament which will be played June 23-25 and we will go to that and compete against other PAC league teams,” Evans said. “This is the first year we have done that and we have qualified for the State Tournament so we will go play in that against other league champions across the state. They really got a lot better throughout the year and we are looking forward to the future. They all have a lot of talent and we are trying to get them ready for middle school and high school with that being our goal — I think they are on the right track.”

A full roster for Veterans Bat includes: Coach Evans, Coach Anthony Downey, Addi Evans, Keira Dobbs, Ambree Downey, Addi Minor, Cianna O’Connor, River Pruitt, Lakyn Reed, Lilly Reyes, Hayley Roy, Cassidy Smith, Kaylee Stengle and Madisyn Stricklin.
