Abbi Price serves the ball up in the Duncan Lady Demons 3-0 sweep over the visiting Elgin Lady Owls Monday evening at Duncan.

After taking the consolation title at the Sand Springs Tournament over the weekend, the Duncan Lady Demons volleyball team took their turn sweeping the Owls nest as they swept Elgin 3-0 Monday evening.

In the first of two games back-to-back in front of the home crowd, the Duncan Lady Demons jumped out to a 3-0 lead before winning the first set 25-14 to take the 1-0 lead.

With the set tied at 9-9, Duncan and Elgin had the longest volley of the night with the kill coming from Kaylee Foster to put the Lady Demons in the lead for good.

Abbi Price, Emily Sutherland and Kyndle Ledford also had some big kills in the set as Duncan made sure to take the lead away from Elgin and go on a run to secure the first set over the visiting Owls.

Sutherland and Klarissa Testa helped out in the second set getting some big kills while the Lady Demons got the 25-13 second set victory to give them the commanding 2-0 lead over Elgin.

As the Lady Demons took a commanding lead, the third set saw Elgin jump out in front with a 1-0 lead, however, Duncan was able to withstand a rally and win the third set 25-17 for the 3-0 sweep.

Alexis Giles joined in on the party getting several ace serves in the beginning of the match to put the Lady Demons to a 5-1 lead with Sutherland also netting some kills in the first part of the third set.

Some errors led to a big Duncan run that had Auston Holz getting some kills and the Lady Demons taking a big 14-3 set lead over Elgin with Testa and Sutherland both building it to their biggest lead at 12 points.

Lady Owls started to make a comeback although Price was able to stop an Elgin run of four points with a kill and Testa put a big exclamation point on to be within five points of the match victory.

The Lady Owls went on a 7-1 run and got the game within five points when Lady Demons coach Amanda Lard called a timeout to talk over some strategy with her team.

The timeout worked to perfection and the Lady Demons were able to score the next four points to secure the victory and the sweep to improve their season record to 8-6 with a rematch set for Tuesday evening against Cement.

The Lady Demons went to Cement after their season opener and had a 2-0 set lead before Cement went off to get the 3-2 set victory over Duncan.

Tuesday’s evening game has not gone final as of press time so a full recap will be in the Thursday edition of The Duncan Banner.

The next game for the Duncan Lady Demons volleyball team will be after Labor Day and they will travel to face Noble starting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 3 which will start a three game road stretch.
