Area athletes will have a chance to improve on their skills as several schools will host sports camps in the next few weeks in a variety of sports.
Velma-Alma Comet basketball camp
May 23-25 will bring up the Velma-Alma Comet basketball camp with Coach Kenny Bare. The three day camp with two sessions is for next year’s kindergarten through ninth grades.
Bare, currently the boys’ coach for Velma-Alma, will host the two sessions with the next year kindergarten through third grades going first from 9 a.m. to noon each day.
The afternoon session will have next year’s fourth through ninth grades and will last from 1-4 p.m. on the three days of camp hosted at the Velma-Alma High School gym.
The cost for each camper is $50. Questions can be directed to Coach Bare at Velma-Alma High School.
Duncan Lady Demons girls All-Star Camp
Coach Brandon Kephart and the Duncan Lady Demons basketball team will host the girls All-Star camp May 31-June 3 for girls entering third through eighth grades to improve their basketball skills.
The camp will consist of team games, shooting competition, a one on one tournament and individual skills competition while learning the finer points of the basketball game.
There will be theme days for the entire camp, which takes place from 9 a.m. to noon each day.
The first day will be jersey day, the second day will be pink day, the third day will be tie dye day and the final day will be crazy sock day.
Kephart asks that campers to bring a water bottle, a snack and extra cash to purchase snacks, candy and gatorade.
Early bird cost for the camp is $65 if paid by May 30. The cost increases to $75 from May 31-June 3 and can be paid by cash or check.

Duncan Demons tennis camp
Duncan Tennis had a great finish for the 2022 season and will now host a week long camp that begins May 23.
Coach Darren Cobble and Coach Phil Barnes will begin registration at 8:30 a.m. May 23 and the camp begins at 9 a.m. on May 23 and lasts until noon each day from May 23-27.
The cost for the camp is $65 and along with the two Duncan High School coaches, the camp will feature former college coaches, college tennis players, state champions and All-Staters related to Duncan tennis program.
Each camper will get a free t-shirt and prize from Duncan tennis camp.
