Despite a long drive on the first part of the game from Chandler, the Outlaws scored 38 unanswered points to gain the victory and beat the Lions 38-7 to move on to the quarterfinals.
Kaden Jones punched the ball in from one yard out after driving the ball 75 yards to give Chandler the the early lead at 7-0 with the Outlaws having a quick answer on their first drive.
Passing proved key for the Outlaws because on the second play of the first drive, quarterback Jace Gilbert hit his receiver from 40 yards out to tie the ball game up at 7-7.
Chandler had trouble moving the ball on their second drive with the Outlaws forcing a fourth down punt. However, wind fought the ball, making the kick go short to give Marlow great field position.
Ending the first quarter with a tie game, the second play of the second quarter saw Gilbert hit Avery Payne from nine yards out on the passing touchdown to take the 14-7 lead over Chandler.
A big pass play on Marlow’s third offensive drive got the Outlaws down to the one yard line as Gilbert connected with Kyle Wilson for almost 40 yards.
With 5:03 left in the first half, Gilbert finished off the drive with a one-yard touchdown run to take the 21-7 lead over Chandler.
The final score of the first half saw the Outlaws settle for a field goal as Gilbert connected on a 35-yard field goal to take the 24-7 lead heading into the second half of action.
Getting the ball in the second half, the Outlaws drove to the nine yard line and Chandler’s defense forced a fourth down, which brought Gilbert to the line to kick a field goal.
The wind caught the ball and pushed it wide left, making Gilbert miss his first field goal of the year to keep the score at 24-7 with 8:09 left in the third quarter.
Casmen Hill got a big run for the Lions in their first drive on the third quarter, however the Outlaws’ defense got a big stop by forcing an incomplete pass on fourth down to get the turnover on downs.
Marlow’s next drive was about to be stopped, but an illegal participation kept the drive alive with an automatic first down. Two plays later, the Outlaws took advantage.
Gilbert took the ball and ran the ball in from 53 yards to score and put the Outlaws up 31-7 with about a minute left in the third quarter.
As the fourth quarter started, Chandler got the first turnover of the game and caused a fumble as they got the ball back and the Outlaws tried for another score.
With the Lions driving, a big sack came from William Hewitt to make it fourth and long with the Lions trying to pass but a turnover on downs gave Marlow the ball back with six minutes left in the game.
As time counted down, the Outlaws got one final touchdown to ice the game as Payne caught the ball from 12 yards out to put the final score at 38-7.
Cascia Hall upset No. 7 Victory Christian and with that victory, they will now host the Outlaws in the quarterfinals of the Class 2A Football Playoffs.
Time and date will be determined once both schools agree.
