As the team in Stephens County to go the furthest in the State Tournament, the Marlow Outlaws took three of the four individual awards in the 2021 All-Area Baseball team.
The Marlow Outlaws have been one of the more successful teams in southwest Oklahoma the past several seasons and in 2021, it was no different as they got the Coach of the Year, Player of the Year and Pitcher of The Year awards.
John Morgan, who just finished his fifth season with the Outlaws, got them to the Class 4A State Semi-Finals and a trip to the State Tournament for the fourth season in a row.
Marlow’s record in the 2021 season was 30-10 with them winning their first round game against Berryhill and then dropping a game to the eventual State Champions in Heritage Hall.
This is John Morgan’s second straight All-Area Coach of The Year award and the Outlaws also had the Pitcher and Player of the Year Awards with both athletes playing both ways on a regular basis.
Brennan Morgan has taken home Player of The Year award as the Outlaws’ third baseman and pitcher during the whole 2021 season.
Having a batting average of .455 and the most hits on the team with 47, Brennan Morgan was also a force on the mound going 7-1 with 75 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.63 on the season.
Also helping on the mound this season was Nate Herchock, who took home the Pitcher of the Year award by going 5-2 on the season with 47 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.18 on the 2021 season.
The final award for the All-Area team went to Empire’s Gabe Diaz, who as a freshman helped the Bulldogs to their furthest trip in the postseason in several years.
Diaz was the everyday catcher for the Bulldogs but also spent time on the mound for Empire High School and had the best batting average on the team for regular starters.
Batting .462 on the season, he had three home runs and drove in 42 runs while having a total of 30 hits for the Bulldogs on the season.
On the mound, Diaz went 6-1 on the year and struck out 74 batters while having an ERA of 1.86 on the 2021 season as the Bulldogs got all the way to the Class A Regionals in the year.
Stephens County had two All-State selections as seniors Tate Wilkins and Herchock were selected for their respective teams.
The All-Area team is listed below with all seven Stephens County schools sending in nominees. The Duncan Banner’s Sports Staff used those nominations to make the decisions about selections for a first team, second team and honorable mention.
