A strong defensive effort was not enough for the Marlow Outlaws in their season opener.
The Outlaws hosted Chickasha in Marlow on Friday and managed to win the second half 7-0. Despite that, the Outlaws fell to 0-1 on the season with a 20-7 loss to the Fightin’ Chicks.
Marlow found itself in a 7-0 hole early in the game. Chickasha needed just one play after a Marlow punt to get on the scoreboard. Cayss Lowery found Kaden Stephenson for a long touchdown.
Following a Marlow turnover, Chickasha eventually struck again to extend its lead.
Marlow was able to drive down the field toward the end of the first half while trailing 20-0. An interception in the end zone ended the drive.
After allowing 20 points in the first half, the Outlaw defense stepped up in the second and held Chickasha scoreless in the final two quarters. The defense also earned a turnover in the scoreless third quarter.
Marlow’s only touchdown of the game came in the fourth quarter. Sam Ivory caught the ball out of the backfield and managed to find the end zone.
The Outlaws converted a long fourth down on their touchdown drive.
Jace Gilbert and Will Bergner each saw time at the quarterback position for the Outlaws. Tag Allen ended up being one of the go-to targets to throw to.
The Outlaws will look to get in the win column Friday. They are scheduled to take on Cache in Cache.
Kickoff for the Outlaws will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 13 at Cache High School with the Outlaws looking to get a victory in 2019 after falling 26-0 in 2018 to the Bulldogs in their home opener last year.
