3-27 DHS golf

Jillian Gregston of Duncan putts Monday at Lawton Country Club. Gregston finished first overall.

Duncan’s Jillian Gregston won a scorecard playoff to edge Edmond Memorial’s Brooke Baker for the top spot Monday at the Lawton Eisenhower Golf Tournament at Lawton Country Club.

Both Gregston and Baker finished with a 74. Gregston’s low round helped DHS to a team score of 328, which put Duncan on top in the 5A and under division at the tournament.

Edmond Memorial finished first in the large-school division with a 307, and DHS was the second overall finisher.

“I was real tickled with how we played today,” Lady Demons head coach Chuck Croy said. “Every girl that played today went out and played over spring break. Some played a lot, and some practiced a little. But they all worked over spring break and that showed. We took nine strokes off our score from the first tournament at Guthrie, and the conditions were a lot worse today.”

Sarah Harper placed 10th with a round of 82, and Morgan Totty came in 11th with an 83. Mackenzie Gray clubbed a round of 89, while Rachel Graham shot 92.

Duncan’s Laura Clark and Jill Spradlin hit the links as individuals. Clark finished with a 94, while Spradlin shot 99.

The fifth spot in the Lady Demons’ lineup is still up for grabs, Croy said.

“There probably isn’t 10 strokes between those three (Graham, Clark and Spradlin),” Croy said. “It is a dogfight. All three are competing. All seven girls are competing and you can’t ask for more as a coach.

“If we all keep improving, we have a shot to do something at the end of the year.”

The Lady Demons face a busy schedule at the end of the week. DHS will be at Rose Creek near Edmond Thursday, and then play in the Ardmore Tournament Friday.
