Trying to end a three game losing streak, the Duncan Lady Demons softball team did so by winning a high score affair against district rival the Altus Lady Bulldogs winning 14-12 Thursday evening on the road.

Duncan's offense exploded by scoring a run in each inning with the most runs coming in the third and fourth innings when the Lady Demons added three runs apiece in to try and keep up with the Altus Lady Bulldogs who were also scoring several runs in several offensive at-bats.

In the top of the first inning, the Duncan Lady Demons got a one out double from Alyssa Childers to get started while KK Miller singled up the middle to score Childers to take the 1-0 lead over the Altus Lady Bulldogs.

Only allowing one hit in Altus' first at-bat in the bottom of the first, the Lady Demons added to their one run lead with a big double from Kira Pickerell driving in two on a line drive to center field to take the 3-0 lead over the home team.

Altus got their offense going in the bottom of the second inning with two well placed singles driving in four runs to take their only lead of the game at 4-3 with the Duncan Lady Demons looking to start their two straight innings of three runs in the game.

In the top of the third, the Lady Demons tied the ball game up at four apiece when Tristan Blackburn singled to center field to score Hannah Harper who reached on a lead off single to start the inning.

Dani Francis joined in on the scoring action as her line drive single to center field scored Mackenzie Cogburn giving the Lady Demons the 5-4 lead before Pickerell continued to have the hot bat and her single scored Blackburn to drive in her third run of the game to take the 6-4 lead over Altus.

Lady Bulldogs got one back in the bottom half of the third when the Lady Demons again got their offense going with a lead off double from Miller and an error on a sacrifice bunt attempt brought in Miller to put the lead at two making it 7-5 in favor of Duncan.

The first out of the inning was on a fielders choice, but Harper scored as the bases were loaded and Cogburn also scored on the play to make it a 9-5 advantage for the Duncan Lady Demons.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Bulldogs got two runs back and cut the Lady Demons lead to 9-7 before getting a ground out to end the threat and keep the lead intact for another inning.

With one out in the top of the fifth, Miller hit a double to put two runners into scoring position with Harper up to bat, she ground out with Childers scoring to put the lead at 10-7 in favor of the Duncan Lady Demons.

A wild pitch scored Miller to make it 11-7 before Cogburn hit a single and then a pop fly ended the top of the fifth with the Lady Demons leading by four runs in the game.

Altus got one run back on a solo home run to cut the Lady Demons lead to 11-8 with Duncan getting three quick outs right after the home run to lead by three runs after five innings of play.

With one out and the bases loaded in the top of the sixth inning, a single from Childers brought the lead back up to four and at 12-8 when a double play made it to where only one run scored in the inning.

Getting two runs back in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Duncan Lady Demons wanted to get insurance runs when a bases loaded walk to Francis brought in one and a single from Pickerell brought in the final run for Duncan which made it four RBIs for the lead off hitter.

Making two quick outs in the last half inning of the game, a single brought Altus closer cutting Duncan's lead to two but a strike out from relief pitcher Miller ended the game at 14-12 in favor of Duncan.

With their record at 5-6 on the year, the Lady Demons will now travel to the Southmoore Festival Saturday and have two games to end the week.

Their first game will be at 11:15 a.m. against Moore High School at Moore High School, while their second game will be at 2:45 p.m. against Southmoore at Southmoore High School.
