Looking to get closer to the .500 mark on the season, the Empire Lady Bulldogs pulled off the extra inning victory over Duncan this past Saturday, winning 5-1 over the Lady Demons.
Empire got into some early trouble in the bottom half of the first inning, allowing the first three Duncan hitters to reach on two singles and a walk, but starting pitcher Jade Millan got the next three outs.
Hitting a fly ball to right field and two strikeouts later, the Lady Bulldogs went into the second inning with the game at 0-0.
Brooklyn Revels and Emery Rowalik hit two singles and a sacrifice bunt from Ava Booser moved runners to second and third, however Duncan was able to get out of the threat.
Duncan got the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth with Dani Francis coming in on a double from Lexie Bingham, putting Empire three outs away, needing a run to extend the game.
With Empire’s Jaycee Porter, facing one out, and Jessi Richardson, reaching on a walk, Porter hit a ground ball to right field, scoring Richardson to tie the ball game up at one apiece.
Not able to take the lead in the top half of the inning, the Lady Bulldogs had to keep the game tied to make it go to extra innings and did so with three straight strikeouts from Jade Millan.
Revels and Booser both reached in the top of the eighth inning and with two outs, the Lady Bulldogs broke the game open with Ashanti Seward hitting a ground ball to score Revels and take the 2-1 lead.
Jasmine Millan took advantage of the fielding errors and hit a single to left field to score Rowalik and give the Lady Bulldogs the 3-1 lead with two outs still on the board.
Richardson hit a pop fly to the infield which wasn’t caught and scored Seward to take the 4-1 lead as Porter hit a ground ball to the left side to score Jasmine Millan and take the 5-1 lead.
Duncan got the third out of the inning to stop the scoring of Empire, who brought up the defense for the Lady Bulldogs to try and keep the four run lead that they built in the top of the eighth inning.
Jade Millan finished the game with a strikeout in the first batter she faced and then a fly out to center field caught by Porter and Revels got the groundout to end the game and earn their fourth victory of the season.
Revels and Jasmine Milan both had two hits apiece for the Lady Bulldogs while Rowalik and Booser had one hit apiece in the victory over Duncan.
Jade Millan went eight innings in the circle and allowed three hits, one run and struck out nine batters.
The Lady Bulldogs continued the 2020 season on Monday evening.
