Bryson Evans

Bryson Evans catches the ball during Friday night’s game against Dickson. The Indians receiver had three touchdowns, two receiving touchdowns and one rushing touchdown.

Facing the team they beat last year to get into their first playoff appearance in seasons, the Comanche Indians pulled off a second half comeback for the 30-20 victory over Dickson.

Dickson scored two early touchdowns with the first one from four yards out while the second one came in a completed pass to put the Comets up 13-0 over Comanche heading into the second quarter.

Not long into the second quarter, Comanche quarterback Kooper Doucet found his receiver Bryson Evans for 17 yards to cut the lead to seven points at 13-6 in favor of Dickson.

Another touchdown put Dickson up by 14 points within a minute after the Comets recent score, the Indians found the connection of Doucet and Evans again to cut the lead to eight points.

This time, the second touchdown of the game for the Indians came from Doucet for 23 yards to Evans, bringing the halftime score to Dickson 20, Comanche 12.

It was all Comanche in the second half. The game tying touchdown from Doucet — accounting for his third touchdown of the game — came all by himself to make it 20-20.

Running it in from four yards out, Doucet also got the two point conversion run to tie the ball game up with the final two scores coming in the fourth quarter.

Kyler Johnson kicked a 24-yard field goal to break the tie with 11:17 left in the final quarter of play to take the lead for good at 23-20 before one final touchdown a minute later sealed the game.

Evans found his third touchdown of the game, this time running it in from four yards out with the extra point good and the Indians leading 30-20. They held on to the victory for the final 10 minutes of play.

Offense showed as pretty even for both teams as Comanche had 322 total offensive yards while Dickson had 310 yards. The Comets gave up the ball five times compared to Comanche giving up the ball zero times.

Doucet went 18-for-35 passing for 227 yards with two touchdowns while Evans had 10 of those passes caught for 135 yards and both of Doucet’s passing touchdowns.

Now 1-0 on the young 2020 season, the Indians are currently set for game two this week as they take on the Healdton Bulldogs.

Kick-off will take place at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at Comanche High School with the Indians looking to go 2-0 to start the 2020 season.
