Jade Millan pitches for the Empire Lady Bulldogs in the 5-1 victory over Central High to start of the Ninnekah Fast Pitch Tournament. Empire split day one on Thursday winning 5-1 and losing 11-0 to Cyril and will play again at 11:45 a.m. today in Chickasha.

Looking to make some noise in their first tournament of the season, the Empire Lady Bulldogs split day one of the Ninnekah Fast Pitch Tournament to win the 5-1 victory over their Stephens County rival Central High and drop to the losers bracket after falling to Cyril 11-0 Thursday in Chickasha.

In their first game at the Ninnekah Fast Pitch Tournament, the Empire Lady Bulldogs moved on to the second round of the winner’s bracket and defeated rival Central High Bronchos 5-1 to move on to face Cyril in the next round.

Being the road team in the first game, the two teams battled until the top of the third inning. That’s when the Lady Bulldogs got their offense rolling against Central High when an RBI single from Jasmine Millan scored the first run and the second run from her sister Jade Millan came in on a Central High error to take the 2-0 lead.

The first three hitters reached base for the Empire Lady Bulldogs in the top of the fourth inning. Ashanti Seward hit a single to center field to score Emery Kowalik. Kowalik reached when she was hit by the pitch to lead off the inning and then she stole a base to put her in scoring position after a sacrifice bunt from Callie Webb put runners on second and third for Jade Millan.

Millan hit a single to drive in two to give the Empire Lady Bulldogs the 5-0 lead. The Lady Bulldogs held the lead until the bottom of the fifth when the Central High Bronchos started to threaten as time was expiring.

It looked like the Lady Bulldogs were one out away from getting the shutout victory when a dropped third strike and an errant throw scored the lone Central High Bronchos run. The Lady Bronchos first baseman Kenzie McCracken scored after running in from third base. Millan was able to strike out the final batter to get their third victory of the season.

Facing off against Cyril, the Lady Bulldogs had to fight starting after a six run top of the second inning by the Lady Pirates and two lead off singles from Brooklyn Revels. Kowalik looked to put them in business, but Cyril got three straight outs to keep the 6-0 lead after two full innings of play.

The Lady Pirates added three more runs in the top half of the third to lead 9-0 as the Empire Lady Bulldogs went to bat in the bottom half of the third and tried to get their offense going to keep themselves in the winner’s bracket of the Ninnekah Tournament.

Cyril continued their offense in the top of the fourth inning and added two more runs to take the 11-0 lead, forcing Empire to need at least one run in the bottom half of the fourth inning to avoid the mercy rule in their second game of the tournament.

Kathline Seeward got a single to lead off the bottom half of the fourth inning, however, the Cyril Lady Pirates were able to get three straight outs to send them to victory and Empire into the losers bracket to start day two of the tournament.

Now 3-3 on the season, the Empire Lady Bulldogs will be in a win or go home situation the rest of the tournament. The Lady Bulldogs will face the winner of Alex and Central High who will play at 10 a.m. on Field 13 at the Chickasha Sports Complex.

The Bulldogs game will start at approximately 11:45 a.m. today as Empire will play on Field 13 at the Chickasha Sports Complex after the conclusion of the Alex and Central High game.
