Errors and missed opportunities in the third inning hurt the Empire Bulldogs as they fell to Ryan 10-6, Monday night.
“We had four errors in the third inning and we just couldn’t come back from it,” Empire coach Jeff Pierce said. “We haven’t been doing well in the third inning and if we can overcome that one bad inning we’ll be OK.”
Both teams were knotted up at 1-1 going into the third inning and then the wheels fell off. However, down by eight runs wouldn’t hamper the Bulldogs as they continued to fight.
“These guys were down 9-1, but they never gave up,” Pierce said. “We scored two in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth.
“We kept battling and didn’t roll over and give the game away.”
Jake Dewey got the loss for the Bulldogs giving up two walks in three innings.
Cole Bridges came in for relief giving up two runs, in four innings with seven strikeouts and one walk.
Harrison Moore led the way at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a single and double with two runs and an RBI.
The Bulldogs will next be in action at 4:30 p.m. today as they travel to Waurika to take on the Eagles.
