The 2020 season was supposed to wrap up last week and the Duncan Tennis Team wanted to honor their seniors who made an impact on the program despite not finishing the 2020 season.
Vanessa Cassidy who competed in one singles the past three seasons started in her freshman season with a 32-7 record and was regional champion while finishing fourth in Class 5A State in singles 2.
In her Sophomore year, Cassidy went 25-11 and was the regional runner-up and finished seventh in the state wide 5A Competition.
The final full season was her junior year and she went 34-4 finishing as regional champion while having her best finish at the State level by placing fourth in Singles 1. Cassidy was a three time Oklahoma All-Star.
Jillian White was the second girls senior for the Lady Demons tennis team. Her freshman year saw her go 23-17 and she was a state qualifier in the two doubles.
In White’s sophomore season she was the regional runner-up for a second year in a row on the two doubles team and her team went 16-12 for the Lady Demons as a state qualifier.
Her junior season saw her jump up to one doubles with fellow senior Cassie Gonzalez and finish third in regionals and was a state qualifier going 23-15.
Gonzalez, in her two year career with Duncan, was a regional runner-up and state qualifier with a record of 17-2 while joining White on the one doubles team where she went 23-15.
The Duncan boys team had three seniors as well. Carson Villalon in his freshman season was in the two singles competition and was a regional champ and finished fifth in the state competition.
In his sophomore season, Villalon played in the two singles, got third in regionals and finished in the fifth spot again in the Class 5A Two singles competition.
Villalon's junior season had him moved up to the one singles competition, was third at regionals and a state qualifier going 19-8.
Taylor Rains was the second senior for the boys team and while playing two doubles he placed second at regionals and was a state qualifier for the Demons.
In his sophomore season he finished second at regionals as part of the two doubles team and placed fifth at Class 5A State Tournament finishing with a 22-7 record.
Rains final full season saw him on the one doubles team, placing second at regionals, finishing fourth at the Class 5A State tournament and was named Oklahoma All-Star.
Lincoln Fitts was the final senior for the Demons. He played two full seasons and his senior year would have been his third for Duncan.
Fitts, in his sophomore season, finished second at Regionals for the two doubles team and fifth at State with a record of 22-7.
In his junior season he placed second at regionals, was a state qualifier in two doubles and finished with a record of 18-13.
The Oklahoma Coaches Association will be releasing the tennis awards within the next week and The Banner will update this story when the awards for the 2020 season are announced.
