Duncan Lady Demons softball had a memorable season opener in 2019 with a district doubleheader sweep of Santa Fe South 16-1 and 24-3 to start the year with a 2-0 record.
In game one, the Lady Demons allowed a first inning run to Santa Fe South, but over the next four innings scored 16 unanswered runs with the biggest coming in the bottom of the first.
Scoring six runs in the bottom of the first, the Lady Demons shut out Santa Fe South the rest of the game and scored three runs in the second and fourth inning while scoring four in the third inning.
During the second game, the Lady Demons allowed another first inning run, but scored eight runs before allowing another run and then putting up another eight spot to lead 16-2.
Allowing one final run in the top half of the third, the Duncan Lady Demons scored their last eight runs in the bottom half of the third with zeros being put up the final two innings of play.
Lady Demons head coach Jeremy Bates said the big bats came from Emily Mefford and Holly Hill. Mefford went 5-for-5 in both games and Hill went 4-for-4 in both games.
Duncan as a team had 24 hits and only allowed four hits to Santa Fe South with the Lady Demons committing four errors in two games compared to Santa Fe South’s six errors in the two games.
With the 2-0 record, the Lady Demons have their first road trip of the season as they faced off against Chickasha last night to try and improve their record to 3-0 on the season.
