Winning their first two games of the year and then dropping two straight games on Tuesday and Thursday, the Duncan Lady Demons softball team got back to their winning ways in the El Reno Tournament opener.
Thursday evening they faced off against two time Class 5A State Champions and new district foe Carl Albert where the Lady Titans got the 21-1 victory. The Demons then went on to beat Western Heights 10-0 Friday.
The lone run of Thursday’s game came in the top of the third when senior Holly Hill hit a deep fly ball for a double to score Alyssa Childers before finishing the game in five innings.
During the Western Heights game on Friday, the Lady Demons got the offense going in the bottom half of the first inning scoring seven times to take a commanding 7-0 lead after one inning.
Both teams went scoreless in the second inning, while in the bottom of the third, the Lady Demons added one run and then added two more in the bottom half of the fourth before time limit was called.
Childers, who pitched against the Western Height Jets, pitched a complete game shutout, only allowing three hits, struck out six and walking one batter in the game.
Hill was the leading hitter for the Lady Demons against the Lady Jets as she went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs, KK Miller drove in one, Mackenzie Cogburn drove in one, Tristin Blackburn drove in one and Emily Trostle drove in one during the game.
In game two of day one of the El Reno Softball Tournament, the Lady Demons lost to Putnam City 7-4 to end the first day of pool play for Duncan High School.
With their record at 3-3, the Lady Demons will play on Field 2 in El Reno with first pitch taking place at 11:30 a.m. today against Northwest Classen.
The final game of the tournament will be determined once all of Saturday’s games are completed and final standings are determined.
