Tristin Blackburn

Tristin Blackburn gets ready to make contact during a game against Wayne. She went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate in the Lady Demons loss to Wayne this past Monday evening.

Starting off the week with some non-district action, the Duncan Lady Demons softball team dropped the first game against Wayne 2-0 and will now turn their attention to the Comanche Festival.

Both Wayne and Duncan’s defense played really tough until the bottom of the third inning when Wayne grabbed their runs on a double to right field.

The double scored one of their batters who reached on a walk in the inning and then the other reached on an error with two outs already made by Duncan pitcher KK Miller.

Miller would finish the inning by striking out the third batter in a row to bring the Lady Demons offense up in the top of the fourth inning where Duncan would get their first hit of the game.

Senior Alyssa Childers, with one out, hit a single to left field and tried to steal second but was caught for the second out and then a strikeout ended the Duncan Lady Demons threat.

Starting off the top of the sixth inning, Tristin Blackburn hit a single to right field and two outs occurred to bring up Lexi Bingham, who hit a single with Blackburn reaching third on the throw in to the field.

Wayne walked Childers to load the bases up for the biggest threat of the game while Wayne was able to get Miller to fly out to centerfield for the final out and a scoreless inning.

Going three up and three down in the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Demons got one final at-bat in the top of the seventh and tried to put together a two-out rally to score some runs.

Emily Mefford hit a double to center field and an infield single from Blackburn moved courtesy runner Gracie Goble to third and brought up Bree Qualls to the plate.

Blackburn stole second base two pitches later into Qualls bat to put runners on second and third and got the count full at 3-2 before putting the ball in play.

Qualls grounded out to the right side of the infield and Wayne was able to collect the third out to send the Lady Demons to 8-10 on the season. They will return to Stephens County this weekend for some games.

Blakcburn led the hitting for the Lady Demons as she went a perfect 2-for-2 while hits also came from Childers, Mefford and Bingham for a total of five hits in the game.

Miller went six innings in the game and struck out nine batters while allowing four hits and one walk. Both runs were unearned in the contest.

On the first day of the Comanche Festival, the Duncan Lady Demons will play in two games with the first taking place around 12:30 p.m. Sept. 17 against Kellyville on Field 4 in Comanche. The second game will take place at around 3:30 p.m. the same day against Anadarko on Field 5 in Comanche.
