The Duncan Demons and Lady Demons cross country teams earned a few top finishes in their season opener hosted in Duncan this past Saturday.
The Boys Cross Country as a team placed second overall while the Lady Demons finished fourth as a team with three boys placing in the top 25 and two girls got top 25 finishes.
Best finish for the boys came from Blake Meadows, who came in third for the Demons with a time of 17:13.36, followed by Nathan Robbins and Nathan Hudson as the other top 25 finishers.
Robbins finished in 18th with a time of 19:10.21 and not far behind him in 19th place was Nathan Hudson who had a time of 19:11.64.
Drew Taliaferro and Kaceson Lolar got the final two finishes to be a part of the team score as Taliaferro finished in 30th with a time of 19:59.94 while Lolar finished 36th with a time of 20:22.89.
In the girls race, which was the first race of the meet, the Lady Demons got two top finishes and placed fourth as a team in the 5A girls competition.
Audrey Berend had the best finish for the Lady Demons coming in 11th with a time of 24:13.02 and Jordan Patterson was the other top 25 finish at 24th with a time of 26:16.02.
The final three finishers for the Lady Demons that helped the team finish fourth was Katrina Arredondo, who came in 31st with a time 27:28.30; Nichzdaly Sepulveda, who came in 33rd with a time of 27:34.86; and Jentry Seeberger, who finished 40th with a time of 28:38.86.
Duncan had six other racers who finished in their respective races with two girls finishing their race and four boys finishing outside of the five team placers.
Arianna Ewing came in 41st with a time of 28:42.99 while Amaya Garcia came in 53rd position with a time of 32:56.11 to round out the Lady Demons racers.
On the boys side, the Demons had Caleb McFatridge come in 39th place with a time of 20:39.21 while Dalton Abernathy came in 59th with a time of 21:59.64.
Adam Clifton and Jaret Santos were the final two runners for the Demons as Clifton came in 66th with a time of 22:24.62 and Santos came in 126th place with a time of 30:49.21.
The next meet for the Duncan cross country teams will take place this week on the road as they head to Carl Albert for the second meet in the 2020 season.
Carl Albert’s meet will begin at 9 a.m. Sept. 4 with the Demons looking to better their results from the season opener this past week.
