Laynie Johnson

Empire's Laynie Johnson delivers one of her three hits during the Lady Bulldogs’ victory over Ninnekah. Johnson went 3-for-3 with one RBI and will play in district playoffs later this week at Rush Springs.

The next steps for four area teams have been determined as the district playoff schedule for Empire, Bray-Doyle, Central High and Velma-Alma softball have solidified.

Empire and Central High will play the closest to home as Velma-Alma and Bray-Doyle will have a little ways to travel. That action begins at noon on Sept. 22 for the area teams.

Velma-Alma will have the first game as the Lady Comets play at noon on Sept. 22 at Vanoss High School against Wayne and then turn around to play their second game at 2 p.m. Sept. 22 against host Vanoss.

If the Lady Comets split or win both games, they will play on Sept. 23 with the schedule to be determined after the conclusion of day one, which will happen at 4 p.m. when Vanoss plays Wayne.

Bray-Doyle’s bracket will try and crown a district championship in one day if possible as the Lady Donkeys will start play at 1 p.m. Sept. 22 at Verden High School.

The Lady Donkeys will play in the first game against Alex with the loser of that game playing host Verden at 3 p.m. Sept. 22. The winner of that game will then play at 5 p.m. Sept. 22 against Verden.

The final game of day one will either see a rematch between Bray-Doyle and Alex if all teams have one loss or the district final if one team has been eliminated.

That game will take place at 7 p.m. Sept. 22. The if-necessary game will begin at 3 p.m. Sept. 23 at Verden High School.

Empire’s Lady Bulldogs have the next start time for their district. They will travel to Rush Springs and face the host school in the first game of three on day one.

That game will kick off at 2 p.m. Sept. 22. The second game will either tee off at 4 p.m. or 6 p.m. against Union City, depending on if they lose or win against the host Rush Springs.

Day two will start at 2 p.m. Sept. 23 at Rush Springs. If all three teams are still alive, the Empire Lady Bulldogs will play Rush Springs with the winner moving on to face Union City at 4 p.m. Sept. 23.

If one team is eliminated, the district title game will take place at 2 p.m. Sept. 23 and the if-necessary game will key up at 4 p.m. Sept. 23.

Central High’s Lady Bronchos — the only team in the area that will have two teams in their district — will travel to Cyril for a best-of-three series to determine the district winner.

Game one will begin at 4 p.m. Sept. 22 between Central High and Cyril and the second game will take place after the conclusion of game one around 6 p.m. Sept. 22.

The if-necessary game will happen at noon Sept. 23 between the two teams if they split the first two games.

Each district winner will then move on to Class A Regionals, which will begin Sept. 29 with the OSSAA determining hosts once all districts complete.
