The regular season is finished for the Velma-Alma Lady Comets and the Comets after they swept the final regular season game against Walters this past Monday.
The Lady Comets started the evening with a 39-23 victory over the Walter Lady Blue Devils with Destinee Wofford and Shain Ille scoring the first buckets of the game.
Jaycee Kimbrough helped Wofford pad the lead with a free throw but Walters cut into the lead in the first quarter of play.
Ille made the first long range shot with a three bucket and Wofford got the Lady Comets leading by eight points with two free throws.
Leading 14-8 heading to the second quarter of play, the Lady Comets extended their lead by Ille scoring several points to get the lead out to seven points midway through the quarter.
After a Walters scoring barrage, the Lady Comets had Wofford bring it back to eight points with another bucket and they ended the second quarter leading 20-12.
Rylee McLain got the first bucket of the second half launching a three to put them up by double digits and several players started scoring for Velma-Alma.
Samie Enloe banked in a bucket while Ille had a free throw and Enloe scored her second bucket to put the Lady Comets up by 15 points and would build the lead even further going into the fourth.
Both teams defense would wrap up the game as the Lady Comets scored six points while Walters scored five points getting the Lady Comets their 21st victory of the year.
Wofford had 15 points for the Lady Comets, Ille had 10 and the rest of the points were spread out from six other players in the victory.
Celebrating the seniors in between games, the Velma-Alma boys were up next and they got the 62-38 victory to move to 21-2 as well for the year.
Jumping out to a 21-6 lead in the first quarter, the first bucket came from Cooper Keck and Jace Saville had four buckets in a row with Morgan Cox also getting some buckets to lead 14-2.
Austin Hunt joined the scoring party along with Tristan Wainscott putting the Comets in the lead 17-6 before scoring the last four points in the quarter.
Saville and Tyler Stewart started off the quarter with buckets and Cox and Wainscott built the lead even further with the Comets leading 31-9.
Hitting three free throws at the end of the third quarter, the Comets led 39-11 moving into the fourth quarter of play where Velma-Alma put up another 18 points.
Buckets came from Saville, Stewart, Cox and Jackson Henson to put Velma-Alma up 57-20. Walters tried to make a comeback but was unsuccessful in their try.
Saville had 24 points, Cox and Stewart had 11 points apiece with five other players joining in the scoring for the Comets in the victory.
Velma-Alma drew the bye in the district playoffs that begin this weekend and will await the winner of Stonewall and Maud who play Friday evening in Velma-Alma.
The District Championship games will start at 6:30 p.m. this Saturday, Feb. 15 for the Lady Comets followed by the Comets starting at approximately 8 p.m. at home with both teams guaranteed to get to regionals win or lose.
