The Velma-Alma Comets golf team had a pretty good season in 2021 and placed 10th overall in the Class 2A State Tournament back in early May to take this week’s Xpress Wellness Team of Week honors.
Three of the five golfers placed in the top 50 with Crue Garrett leading the way as he placed 30th overall with a three-round score of 250.
During his first round, Garrett scored 83 before shooting 82 in the second round and 85 in the third round.
The next Comet golfer ca,e six strokes back to finish 37th overall.
Langsten Walker finished with a three-round score of 256 with his first round score an 86. He shot two 85s in the next two rounds to finish his tournament.
Cooper Keck fell in line as the third best golfer for the Comets as he finished 47th overall to become the final golfer in the top 50. He shot 96 in the first round and 88 in the final two rounds to have a three-round score of 272.
Velma-Alma’s final two golfers included Caedon Lowry, who finished 69th overall with a three-round score of 303, and Garrett Gilby, who finished 71st with a three-round score of 353.
Lowry shot 91 in the first round and 103 and 109 in the second and third round respectively while Gilby shot 111 in the first round, 130 in the second round and 112 in the third round to complete the Velma-Alma Comets’ Class 2A State Tournament run.
The Comets are coached by Kenny Bare and they will return four of their top five golfers to the 2021-2022 team.
