Comanche girl celebrating

Lilly Brown celebrates after driving in a run against Marlow last season. The Lady Indians will host summer league and scrimmage play beginning July 7.

With the calendar turning to July, teams stand one month closer to the fast pitch softball season opening. This year, Comanche will host a summer league featuring three area teams.

Typically, Comanche Lady Indians and other area teams will head to Marlow for their annual summer league but with COVID-19 present, a lot of schools’ normal plans have changed.

With the void of no league to prepare for the season, the Lady Indians put together a four-week-long, 10-team league with two fields in use and four time slots each week.

Each week, a team will play two games on one day for a total of eight games throughout the four weeks. Play will begin July 7 at the Comanche Field of Dreams.

Host Lady Indians will have the first game of the three area teams as they take on another Stephens County team in Empire to open up week one of play.

Head softball coach for Comanche Aaron Minor and the Lady Indians come off a season during which they went 22-10 and went to the Regionals Tournament while their opponent Empire finished the 2019 season with a record of 12-10.

This will make the second season Jeff Pierce will lead the Empire Lady Bulldogs. They will prepare for the next season and look to make a trip to regionals after dropping in district play last year.

Bray-Doyle will appear in the Comanche Summer league tournament as the third team. They will take on Walters in their first game before taking on Empire in the second game of the evening.

The Lady Donkeys come off their first season under Coach Angela Robnett. They finished the first season with a record of 11-14 and won their first district title in several years.

The Lady Donkeys season ended in regionals where they lost to a state tournament team in the first game and then lost to Hydro-Eakly to end the 2019 season.

Teams will officially begin practice July 15 with the final two weeks of action closer to the start of the regular season ,which officially begins for teams on Aug. 10.
