Lilly Brown

Lilly Brown makes contact during a game earlier this season. Brown drove in three runs against Marlow this past Monday to sweep the district series.

Winning a close game on the road against their rival, the Comanche Lady Indians completed the district sweep over the Marlow Lady Outlaws 10-4 in front of the home crowd.

Marlow got the offense going first but the Lady Indians got two quick outs in the top of the first. Lyvia Bateman, with two outs, hit a triple and later scored on a wild pitch to lead Comanche 1-0.

Comanche, in the bottom half, took the lead on two straight batters. Brighton O’Connor hit a pop fly to the second baseman which was dropped to score the tying run in the bottom half of the first.

O’Connor came in on the next batter as Brooklyn Gill hit a sacrifice fly to right field to put the Lady Indians up 2-1 over the Marlow Lady Outlaws.

The bottom half of the second proved to be a big inning for the Comanche Lady Indians as they had seven of their 10 runs cross the plate with the offense coming up big against Marlow.

With one out and the bases loaded, Raylee Chaney got the big hit to start the offense, hitting a double deep to center field to score two runs and take the 4-1 lead over Marlow.

Kinley Rendon kept the offense rolling again, only needing two pitches to find the perfect one and hit a double almost to the same spot of the field, bringing in another two runs for a score of 6-1.

Gill got up to the plate and on the first pitch, put the ball in play right back to center field, which put Comanche up 7-1 as the next batter Gracee Miller reached on a single to bring up Lilly Brown.

Brown got the next hit for the Lady Indians — another to center field to bring in Gill and Miller to lead 9-1 before a pitching change ended the inning with Marlow down by eight.

Bateman cut into the lead for Marlow as Alisha Lemmons and Jillian Totten hit singles to put them on base with Bateman coming through with a single of her own to make it 9-2.

Jori Brittain got a single of her own to bring in Totten to cut into Comanche by one more at 9-3. Dara Hunt then came up to bat, looking for the Lady Outlaws third straight hit.

Bateman scored on a wild pitch to make it 9-4 in favor of Comanche, however Hunt hit a single to put runners on the corners with one out.

Comanche was able to get two straight outs to end the scoring threat for the Lady Outlaws and head to the bottom of the third inning.

Brown drove in another run for the Lady Indians in the bottom of the fourth to put the lead back up to six runs.

The Lady Indians then cinched the victory as the game ended due to lightning in the top of seventh.

Brown had three RBIs in the game followed by two apiece from Chaney, Rendon and Gill. The Lady Indians notched their 10th victory of the season and improved their district record to 3-1 on the 2020 season.

Currently, the Lady Indians are second in the district and were supposed to have a matchup with number one Dickson this past Tuesday, but rain forced the game to postpone.

According to Coach Aaron Minor, the Lady Indians game against Dickson will most likely happen this Friday or Monday with the time and date not finalized as of press time.

The Marlow Lady Outlaws had a game on the road against Chickasha this past Tuesday but that game was also canceled due to inclement weather and will most likely not be made up as it is non-district.

The next scheduled games for both teams will take place at 5 p.m. Sept. 3 at Lindsay for the Comanche Lady Indians while the Lady Outlaws will play at 5 p.m. Sept. 3 at home against Cache.
