After playing in a close battle in a previous district game, the Carl Albert Lady Titans took the road victory over the home Duncan Lady Demons softball team, beating them 9-1.
Duncan’s defense got off to a quick start with Lexie Bingham getting three straight catches at second base in the top half of the first inning, leading to a 0-0 game with Duncan’s first at-bat.
Bingham and KK Miller reached on singles to start off the bottom half of the first inning, however Carl Albert got out of the inning with two strikeouts and a fielder’s choice out.
Both teams battled, trying to get the edge with offense. The teams traded zeros on the scoreboard until the top of the third inning, when Carl Albert took some clutch hits.
The top of the order reached base and with a full count and two stolen bases later, Kaylee Davis from Carl Albert hit a single through the left side to make the score 1-0.
Davis scored on an error to make it 2-0 in favor of the Lady Titans.
The scoring for the road team didn’t pick back up again until the top of the fifth inning.
Abbey Rogers hit a double to left field to make it 3-0 in favor of the Carl Albert Lady Titans and another three runs came in at the top of the sixth to lead 6-0 before the first Duncan run of the game happened.
Bingham started off the inning with a single up the middle. Alyssa Childers hit a single to the third base line to put two runners on and runners on the corners after a stolen base.
Mac Cogburn came up to the plate and brought the count to 2-2 before smacking the ball deep to left field for a sacrifice fly to score Bingham and cut the Carl Albert lead to 6-1.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Lady Titans brought in three more runs, making it three up and three down in the bottom of the seventh to end the game.
Bingham went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Lady Demons while Miller and Childers grabbed the other hits. The loss drops them to 8-9 on the season and 5-5 in district play.
The Lady Demons will return to the road for their next district game, which is tentatively scheduled for 5 p.m. Sept. 10 at El Reno unless weather postpones the game.
Duncan and El Reno have already played once this season with the Lady Indians winning 5-1 over the Lady Demons in Duncan.
