Early in the first quarter, the Empire Bulldogs got the lead against the visiting Chattanooga team, however, the Bulldogs fell to the Warriors 56-44 this past Friday evening in front of the home crowd.
McRay Weber started the Bulldogs off with two free throws to lead off the game and Chattanooga tied it up at two apiece before Empire got a couple baskets from the field to lead by four points.
Baskets from Daniel Alvarez and a three point bucket from Brayden Miller put them up 9-5 then Chattanooga tied it up at 11 apiece before final bucket from Noel Sarimento cut it to a one point game.
Chattanooga led by 14-13 heading into the second quarter as Alvarez and Sarimento kept the Bulldogs in the game scoring two buckets apiece with Weber hitting two free throws to tie the game up at 23 apiece.
The Warriors were able to finish the quarter on a 4-0 run and led by three points at 27-24 with Sarimento hitting one of two free throws at the end of the first half.
In the third quarter Chattanooga started to pull away late as they built the lead up by 15 but a buzzer beating three from Weber got it back to 12 and Chattanooga led 47-35.
Miller and Alvarez got two buckets apiece with Miller hitting an open quarter three to put Chattanooga’s lead to nine and Alvarez brought it to a seven point lead with his first bucket.
A three bucket was the final dagger for the Bulldogs and they were unable to come back from the deficit that was built in the second half.
Alvarez led the scoring for the Bulldogs with 14, Sarimento had 11, Weber had nine, Miller had eight and Jackson Smith hit a two bucket in the third quarter.
With the loss, the Bulldogs are now 7-11 on the year and will host the next game against Healdton following the Lady Bulldogs which starts at 6:30 p.m. this evening, weather permitting.
Tip-off for the boys game against Healdton will be at 8 p.m. this evening as they have two games this week with the last one coming on Friday at Elmore City.
