Bray Team

The 2019 Bray-Doyle Donkeys won their first game of 2019 by scoring 40 unanswered points and was named Xpress Wellness Team of the Week for games played Sept. 6.

Picking up their first win and setting a state record for interceptions by an individual player, the Bray-Doyle Donkeys were selected as Xpress Wellness Team of the week for the 60-22 victory.

Sitting at 1-1 in 2019, the Bray-Doyle Donkeys got five interceptions from Cody Edwards who set the Oklahoma state record in the game and is second overall in the country with that performance.

Donkeys head coach Marcus Knight, who is in his second year as the leader of the program, said that the team put together a real good second half to get the victory.

“We played a real good second half and the first half, we played a horrible first half. We were down 22-20 at half,” Knight said. “We came out at second half and scored 32 points in the third quarter and the kids really responded to what I said at half and really came out and played hard.”

Out of the five interceptions, Edwards returned one for a touchdown and his brother Weston also had an interception to put together six interceptions for the team.

Knight said it is an honor for the team to be named team of the week and credits the team for coming together in a crucial spot during the game.

“It is big for us to be selected as team of the week. It is a pretty good honor considering it is the first one handed out and we get that,” Knight said. “We are trying to get our program headed in the right direction and we feel like we are doing that.”

Their next game will be their second road game in a row as they play at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Paoli High School.
