After a full Christmas break, Stephens County basketball teams will start round two of tournaments this weekend with all of the teams traveling away from the county to play ball.

The closest of the teams is Empire, which will head to the Black Diamond Classic in Rush Springs to try and win a tournament title in one of the most prestigious tournaments in the area.

Empire will begin 2022 with a game against Ringling on Jan. 4 before the Black Diamond match ups which start early Thursday afternoon for the teams.

The Bulldogs will take on a familiar foe as they play at 3 p.m. Jan. 6 against the Waurika Eagles to open up the Black Diamond in Rush Springs. 

Facing off last year in the Stephens County Tournament, the Bulldogs were barely beat by Waurika 42-35. They hope to start off the Black Diamond Classic with a victory.

The Lady Bulldogs will follow up after the conclusion of the Empire boys’ game as they take on Wynnewood to open up their Black Diamond Classic tournament play.

The game between the Lady Bulldogs and Wynnewood will tip off around 4:20 p.m. Jan. 6 with all Black Diamond Classic Tournament games taking place at Rush Springs High School.

Velma-Alma will have the earliest games of anyone in their respective tournaments as they head to the Arbuckle Winter Classic at Davis High School.

The Comets will have the first game against an opponent in Davis as they play at 12:20 p.m. Jan. 6 against Sasakwa to open up the tournament.

The Lady Comets will have the next game as they play at 1:40 p.m. Jan. 6 against Little Axe with all games at Davis High School.

Comanche High School will head to Lindsay for the Charles K. Heatly Classic with the Lady Indians having their first game at 3:20 p.m. Jan. 6 against Lone Grove High School.

Because of a COVID-19 outbreak, the Indians will now also face Lone Grove to open up the tournament with their game beginning at 11:20 a.m. Jan. 6 at Lindsay High School.

Marlow will travel to the Kingston Tournament and the boys will play at 3 p.m. Jan. 6 against Lattta, while the Lady Outlaws will play host Kingston at 7 p.m. Jan. 6 at Kingston High School.

Duncan will head to Noble High School to play in the 2022 Dental Lodge Classic with the Lady Demons playing first at 4 p.m. Jan. 6 against Perkins-Tryon.

Around 5:30 p.m. Jan. 6, the Demons will face off against St. Mary’s to finish the first round action at Noble High School for Duncan’s varsity basketball teams.

Central High will play at the Coliseum Classic with the Lady Bronchos playing at 4:20 p.m. Jan. 6 against Arkoma and the Bronchos playing at 8:20 p.m. Jan. 6 against Fletcher.

All tournaments will play beginning this Thursday and will finish up this Saturday to finish out every school’s second tournament of the season.
