Senior pitcher Craig Holt pitches in a game last season before COVID-19 canceled the 2020 season. The Demons, along with two other Stephens County teams, will start district play in March to begin the 2021 season.

Usually the sport of baseball plays two years in a set district schedule, however area baseball teams will look to make noise in district play this season after most teams didn’t get many district games in a year ago as a result of COVID-19.

Districts were drawn for the 2020 and 2021 seasons for Class 2A-6A and each team will play one game at home and one game away to complete the two-game district series.

In Class 5A, the Duncan Demons will appear along district mates such as Altus, Ardmore, Del City, MacArthur, Eisenhower, Noble and Western Heights.

Currently, the Demons will open their district play against Western Heights beginning at home on March 8 and then will take to the road March 9 pending if Western Heights starts their season on time.

Duncan head coach Erik Hughes said that Western Heights will be on a week-to-week basis for their season and will know closer to the season starting if the games will take place or not.

Marlow, which was slated for their first season in Class 4A in 2020, will finish their second season in district two of Class 4A and will appear in the same district as Bridge Creek, Cache, Chickasha, Elgin, Newcastle, John Marshall and Tuttle.

Because of travel, the Outlaws will open their season with a home doubleheader to begin their district play against John Marshall, which is also their season opener.

The games will start at 4 p.m. March 1 at Marlow High School baseball field with the second game to follow 15 minutes after the conclusion of game one.

Comanche is the final area team that is in a set district as they will appear in Class 3A District one along with Davis, Dickson, Kingston, Lindsay, Lone Grove, Marietta and Tishomingo.

The Indians district opener will take place against Lindsay as they travel on the road first. They will then have the home game the next day as they play at 5 p.m. March 8 at Lindsay. The Indians will have the home district game starting at 5 p.m. March 9 against Lindsay to open up their district slate of games.

Other Stephens County teams who are in Class A who will not appear in districts are Velma-Alma, Empire, Central High and Bray-Doyle.
