Coach Angela Boles has been hired as Bray-Doyle’s new softball and basketball coach after spending many years at Verden Public Schools. Boles is excited about her first head coaching position and feels like it is a really good fit.
Since being hired, Boles has started to work with the Lady Donkeys softball team at camps and the Marlow Summer League.
Boles is a graduate from Verden and was an assistant coach there for several years. When she heard about the job she got her application in and got a chance to visit with administration before being offered the position.
“I came over and got a call that the position was open so I submitted my resume. I figured it wouldn’t hurt to come and talk to them,” Boles said. “When I got there and visited with everybody, it had a really good feel. I really enjoyed everyone I have met, they made me feel real welcome. Then I had a meeting with the girls and I think it would be a good fit for me and for them, it is a really good group of girls.”
A season ago the Bray-Doyle Lady Donkeys finished the year with a 16-12 record. Boles will inherit a lot of the starters from that team and will be going forward with the young team with experience.
“This group doesn’t quit. They make mistakes but bounce right back from it even in this heat. The heat index is currently 107 right now. They don’t quit and just go,” Boles said. “They are very determined and I like that.”
As she prepares for her first season with the Lady Donkeys, Boles knew the team made it to districts a year ago and her expectations are for the team to get better and possibly move further in postseason play.
“My expectations going into this year are we would like to win more games than we did last year,” Boles said. “We would like to fix any mistakes that we have got coming up because we are a young team. I see us going up from here. I would like to advance to regionals and possibly go ahead and win that too. We have a lot of support from the parents and a lot of good support.”
The Lady Donkeys next games will be in the Marlow Summer League against Empire at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 30 and then the second will follow immediately against Walters at 5:20 p.m.
Bray-Doyle will open up the regular season on the road against Stephens County rival Velma-Alma with first pitch taking place at 4:30 p.m. on August 13.
