During World War II, Lt. John Robert Fox was directing artillery fire near a small Italian town to stall a German advance. Suddenly, a large German force moved in on his position, jeopardizing his men. In order to save his men and perhaps the position, he called in a final strike on himself just as the German soldiers surrounded him. Fox died along with 100 German soldiers. He saved his men and the position.
