RYAN — A one-car accident Wednesday evening sent an Irving, Texas, man to United Regional Hospital in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Nathan Mackey said that Kiran Raj, 42, had a broken bone and was having difficulty breathing when first responders pulled him out of the vehicle.

Mackey said that Raj was about two miles north of Ryan and traveling north at a high rate of speed in a Volkswagen Jetta when he swerved to miss something in the road.

Mackey said that the vehicle then departed the roadway to the left, hit a guardrail and went airborne through a fence and then jumped a creekbed.

After impacting the north embankment of the creekbed, the vehicle went airborne again and struck a tree about 15 to 20 feet in the air before falling down and coming to rest at the base of the tree, Mackey said.

Raj was freed by first responders and air-evacuated to the hospital.

His wife, Rhabini, suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from the hospital.

Mackey was assisted by numerous public safety agencies from Jefferson County and Waurika.
