The Duncan Association of Realtors are planning their Annual Flower Auction for Wednesday to benefit the Stephens County Youth Shelter.
Debbie Lynn Benton, Realtor at Marlow Real Estate, said the flower auction takes place during their May monthly luncheon.
“Everyone that is a Realtor or an affiliate can come and take part in the event,” Benton said. “All the Realtors and affiliates can bring a guest, the more the merrier. It’s always great to get more people there and involved for such a good cause.”
The auction consists of donated items like plants, flowers, and gardening items like pots, soils and gardening to be auctioned off the highest bidder. During the luncheon catered by Suzie Q’s, a representative from the Stephens County Youth Shelter will be present to update the attendees of the progress made in raising the funds for the new youth shelter.
The DAR has been holding the flower auction for the last 15 years but changed formats last year to focus on one benefactor.
“I was the community action chair last year and we wanted to get people enthused about coming and participating more in the auction,” Benton said. “So we decided to designate it to one particular cause instead of a multiple causes like the auction we have in the fall.”
Last year’s auction raised around $1,100 for the youth shelter, prompting Benton and the DAR to stay with the youth shelter and attempt to raise more money this year.
“In years before, we would usually raise about $400 or $500 and that was successful back then,” Benton said. “We’re not that large of a group, so to see us reaching $1,100 is magnificent and we hope to top that this year.”
Those intersected in donating gardening-related items can drop them at the DAR board office at 1214 N. U.S. Highway 81, Ste. 110 in Duncan or off at Marlow Real Estate at 204 W. Main Street in Marlow.
