For the fourth year in a row, more than 200 organizations from 14 North Texas and Southern Oklahoma Counties will come together on Sept. 12 for the area’s largest online giving day — Texoma Gives. The 16 hour fundraising event focuses on bringing the region together on a single day to highlight the nonprofit organizations that work daily to improve the lives of others.
Leslie Schaffner, President of the Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation, host for the event, said the event is a great way to help boost the non-profits.
“Texoma Gives is a great tool for matching an organization’s mission with a donor’s passion,” she said. “Visitors to texomagives.org can search by an organization’s name, a location, or even a cause to learn more about the participants, and then donate to their favorites.”
This year, seven Stephens County organizations are part of Texoma Gives and will join 20 others from Comanche, Jackson and Cotton counties. The Stephens County organizations include:
• Beautiful Day Foundation
• Charis Pregnancy Center
• Chisholm Trail Heritage Center Association
• Douglass Eastside Senior Citizens Center
• Duncan Public School Foundation
• Stephens County Humane Society
• United Way of Stephens County
Schaffner said the online giving event was a way to connect outside of an organizations community.
“Anyone in the world may donate from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. (CST) from their computer or secure mobile device,” she said. “The minimum donation is $10. Participating organizations are also eligible to win $1000s in “prize” money throughout the day.”
Moving online is just easier to reach more people.
“So much of life these days is lived online. Nonprofits have realized that and are focusing on ways to tap into the convenience and immediacy of online giving,” she said. “As we enter the fourth year for Texoma Gives, it’s really apparent how many of the participating organizations are using the event to reach a new generation of donors. The impact can be tremendous.”
