Duncan Chamber of Commerce has announced the deadline for those wishing to submit an application for the latest Leadership Duncan class.

May 17 marks the deadline for applications for those in Duncan to apply to be a part of Leadership Duncan Class XXIV. According to the Duncan Chamber of Commerce, “Leadership Duncan is a community leadership development program” which has been put in place “to promote individual leadership skills that will better serve our community and surrounding area.”

Anyone living in Stephens County or working in the area is encouraged to apply for the nine-month program.

The program will see graduates re-enter “the community equipped with the leadership skills necessary to work effectively toward the growth and development of Duncan.”

“Class members will improve their overall understanding of Duncan and the city’s processes, inter-relationships, strengths and needs, and how state legislation and state departments impact Duncan services,” states a release. “Leadership Duncan Class members increase their awareness of Leadership opportunities in Duncan, the variety of leadership styles and levels, and learn how to become part of a Leadership network. They learn or enhance their leadership skills by applying those skills throughout the course, attending and participating in skills development exercises, lectures and presentations and consciously noting where the skills are used, how they are used or misused, and when the presence of skills enhances communication, learning, and effectiveness.”

After the course is over, graduates typically band together to help work on a community project.

“Through application of skills and information gained during Leadership Duncan to the community following graduation, our community sees increasing levels of volunteerism, increasing levels of advocacy, increasing levels of community involvement and service,” states the release.

Application forms are available at www.duncanchamber.com and more information can be acquired by contacting Chris Deal, President and CEO for the Chamber, by calling 580-255-3644.
