Larry G. Lemons art

In this work “Toad of Many Colors,” Larry G. Lemons blends many iconic images of Texas life.

Getting friendly with the neighbors is never a bad thing and the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center is doing just that with their latest exhibit.

Larry G. Lemons of Nocona, Texas, has always had an eye for art and brings the larger than life attitude with his paintings.

According to the press release, Lemons and his wife Donna Rose own and operate a gallery in Nocona. Lemons is a photographer who holds the title “Master Craftsman.” He also taught art to eager students and developed a love of painting himself.

“I have taken colorful and iconic images and wrapped them in a package that I call ‘A Texas State of Mind.’ If you look closely, you will see such universal themes as family values, patriotism, faith, humor, nostalgia and maybe more,” Lemons said in the release.

Along with the show, there is an artist’s reception where Lemons will be on hand to talk about his art from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at the Heritage Center.

The reception is free and there will be light refreshments.

Lemons uses his surroundings as inspiration for his work so expect armadillos, the Lone Star, rusty pickup trucks, horned toads and sun bleached skulls.

“The icons of Texas and the great southwest make up my artistic arsenal,” Lemons said.

He also is known for dropping a dog or even a whole truck sometimes in his works.

“If my art makes you smile, then I’ve done my job,” he said.
