Marlow Police arrested a previously convicted felon and sex offender when they found him allegedly outside of a house, watching someone while he was armed with a weapon.
According to police reports, around 10:31 p.m. Jan. 3, police were dispatched to a home on Marlow Drive for a disturbance.
The caller told police when they arrived that someone named James Earl Richard Smith had walked up to her house and was beating on the door and all of the windows in her home.
The caller also advised police Smith had then walked to her front door, hit her door, busted the door jam and then ran off before police arrived.
Police spoke with the victim but couldn’t find Smith, so they left the area, reports state.
Law enforcement returned after a second call indicated Smith was back at the residence. The caller told police that Smith was hiding around the corner of the apartment in front of her residence, reports state.
Upon arrival, police looked where the caller last spotted Smith and found him laying on the ground, covered up with leaves as he laid against the fence. When police approached him, reports state he jumped up and began to run away.
When police instructed Smith to stop and show his hands, he did so and they conducted a pat search.
During the pat down, police found a Rider 22 LR revolver that was loaded with six live soft nose rounds, reports state.
Smith, when asked if he had a concealed carry license, responded “no” and advised police he was a convicted felon.
At this time, police also found a small metal case located in Smith’s left hip pocket containing marijuana.
Police placed Smith under arrest for possession of marijuana and possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction. They then confirmed Smith was a sex offender.
Smith faces charged of felon in possession of a firearm after a previous felony conviction, attempting escape from arrest, possession of controlled dangerous substance marijuana and malicious injury to property.
Bond for Smith is set at $50,000. He will appear again in court for an attorney announce date at 2 p.m. Jan. 31.
