Candidate filings in Stephens County have wrapped up for some area school board positions as well as municipal positions in Marlow. Contest of candidacy filing period will also end at 5 p.m. today, according to Angela Dunagan, with the Stephens County Election Board.
Uncontested positions applied for include Duncan Public Schools Office 5, which will see Greg Neal returning. The same seat for Comanche will go to Charlie Z. Gay, while in Empire the position will go to Paul Mendenall and in Velma-Alma the seat will go to James Layn. Central High will see Cassie McKinney fill the same position while Bray-Doyle will see Karl Shackelford in office. In Grandview, the seat is for Office 2, which will go to Kevin Lindesmith. Red River Technology Center Seat 5 is set for Dee Williams.
The only contested position for school board will be Office 5 in Marlow, which will see Terry Turner and Shawn Bateman compete for the position.
On a municipal level, Ward 2 in Marlow, which will come with a three year term, will go to election as both Neal L. Moore and Brad Throckmorton applied for the position.
Ward 4, which was also open in Marlow, had no filings for the position, which carried a two year unexpired term.
Municipal offices at stake in Marlow will go to vote in a non-partisan primary election scheduled for Feb. 11, 2020. If necessary, a general election will take place April 7, 2020.
Because only two candidates applied for the position on Marlow School Board, the position will also go to vote in the general election April 7, 2020.
Contest of candidacy wraps up at 5 p.m. today at the Stephens County Election Board, located at 101 S. 11th Street, Duncan. Should anything be filed, The Banner will update with more information.
