Fiesta in Fuqua 2019 -- school supplies

Many have taken part in receiving school supplies for the upcoming year, such as in the 2019 Fiesta in Fuqua event. The same event continues this year as students are invited to get the necessary school supplies on from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7.

Here’s to a sharp and organized school year. Sponsors set to provide students with the necessary supplies for going back to school are prepping for the big event hosted annually in Fuqua Park.

Fiesta in Fuqua and those backing the event will hand out free school supplies in bags while supplies last to students from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7.

Hosted by Connection Church in Duncan and community partnerships, Fiesta in Fuqua seeks to help community kids get ready for school with free school supplies, haircuts and more.

While preparing for Fiesta in Fuqua’s party in the park, Duncan community volunteers strive to promote promote health and wellness as they help prepare students for the upcoming school year.

According to Jeannie Bowden, who helps with the event: “the foundational purpose of this event is to promote health and wellness, and the games are the motivation. The secondary purpose of the event is the free school supplies.”

All area students, accompanied by a parent, guardian or adult, are invited to attend this free event.

“Students are encouraged to walk around to the different community organizations that will offer games to promote and reinforce an active lifestyle,” Bowden said. “After playing games, the students may obtain free school supplies, while supplies last.”

For those wishing to help out and make monetary donations for school backpacks and supplies, donations can be made to Connection Church Duncan by indicating funds are for Fiesta in Fuqua.

Of those donations, 100% will go to purchase school supplies for students and contributions will be highlighted at the event.

For safety reasons, there will be no cars parked in Fuqua Park. Parking will be available in the south parking lot.

Organizers are still looking for community organizations and businesses to participate in the event.

If a community organization or business would like to set up a game or provide services like giving haircuts, dental exams or eye exams, or for more information about Fiesta in Fuqua, contact Bowden at 580-656-0530 or jeanniebowden4@gmail.com
