Velma-Alma Public Schools will ask its voters to approve a bond with two propositions when they head to the ballot box on Feb. 11.
Raymond Rice, Velma-Alma Public Schools Superintendent, said there is “no projected tax increase” if the measure gets approved.
The bond consists of two propositions Rice said. The first totals $505,000 and will serve to renovate and remodel the 69-year-old auditorium at the school while also tackling other areas on the campus.
Rice said money from the first proposition allocated to the renovation of the auditorium would include “new flooring, new seating, new paint, a new ceiling, new lighting, new spotlights and refinish(ing) the stage.”
Other areas the first proposition will also look to rejuvenate will be the field house and football field house. Rice said the field house would receive a renovation and remodeling for restrooms and showers and the football field house would also completely renovate the showers and restrooms in the facility.
Other target areas for the first proposition include obtaining and installing security cameras district wide.
“Nearly 50 security cameras will be placed around the campus to add to the existing camera system we currently have,” Rice said. “All classrooms in the Elementary Building will receive cameras (because they are) the only classrooms on our campus that currently do not have cameras. Safety of our students is a top priority.”
Security cameras would also be obtained for the bus fleet.
The second proposition on the ballot will total $260,000 and will be used to purchase vehicles for “pupil transportation.”
Rice said the funds specifically would replace the 22-year-old activity bus.
“This is a combined $765,000 Bond that is replacing the $765,000 bond that was passed to build our Science Facility,” Rice said. “(There is) no projected tax increase. We have no unpaid (or) unfinished bonds.”
