The United Way of Stephens County announced this week the umbrella organization will open its application process for the upcoming grant period for qualifying 501(c) organizations.
According to United Way Executive Director Helen Stewart, the applications will begin being accepted on Oct. 14, 2021. Stewart said decisions regarding funding are made each year in February by a committee of 25, including community volunteers and United Way board members, who evaluate all proposals and tour prospective agencies.
“We encourage organizations here in Stephens County to entertain the possibility of joining us,” Stewart said. “Our mission of the United Way of Stephens County, Inc. is to improve our communities’ quality of life by uniting resources in support of programs dedicated to helping people.”
Stewart said agencies already under the United Way umbrella help with basic needs such as food, utilities, clothing, children and youth programs, mentoring, counseling and referral services, domestic violence and sexual assaults, legal issues, developmental services, senior citizen programs and activities and more, each serving neighbors in Stephens County.
Applications must be completed and turned into the United Way office by 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021. Applications are available at the office at 12 S. 8th Street, Duncan.
