Toy Shop

The Toy Shop of Duncan will put on the fall sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 15 and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16 at 931 W. Willow.

The Toy Shop of Duncan will operate at full force from now until Christmas on a mission to make the winter holiday season special for area children. The team will further that cause through the annual fall rummage sale this weekend.

The Toy Shop of Duncan will put on the fall sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 15 and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, according to Kim Davis, executive director for the nonprofit organization providing Christmas presents to families in need with children. The set up will take place at the warehouse currently occupying a space at 931 W. Willow.

“We are so very excited to be in our own place and look forward to having more sales in the future,” Davis said.

The Toy Shop of Duncan was established in 1947 by the American Association of University Women (AAUW). In 1966, the Church Women United assumed ownership of the project as it aligned with their mission of serving the local community and had become too large for the AAUW. The Toy Shop has provided Christmas to children and families in Duncan for almost 75 years.

Through several recent grants and donations, The Toy Shop has made huge progress toward the goal of gifting to the less-fortunate for this year’s season, Davis said.

Still, the rummage sale is one of the most important sales during the year when it comes to boosting funds for the cause.

“We have had to purchase our warehouse, renovate it to bring it up to code per the city of Duncan and will now have overhead that we have not previous had,” Davis said.

Davis said they look forward to their fall sale to kick off their busy season.

“We can’t wait to make this Christmas season a bright one for children in Duncan this year,” Davis said.

The Toy Shop of Duncan’s annual toy run in December will begin registration on Nov. 12-13. Annually, Toy Shop of Duncan is known to comfortably provide Christmas to well over 1,200 children in Duncan through an all-volunteer staff, totaling almost 150 people plus a committee overseeing the program, and donations.

As in year’s past, the Toy Shop accepts donations of gently used toys for Christmas presents or the rummage sale, families or businesses to adopt families, and of course financial donations and new toys. The group of volunteers also purchases gifts wherever they can find the best deal on the hottest toys.

Donations can be mailed to the Toy Shop of Duncan at P.O. Box 206 Duncan, Oklahoma, 73534. For more information, call 580-255-9625 or visit Duncan Toy Shop online at toyshopduncan.com.
