COMANCHE— After several meetings and multiple plan drawings, the Oklahoma Transportation office announced the sidewalk project in Comanche will begin June 7.
City Manager Chuck Ralls has had several meetings with Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) about the project located on Highway 81 and State Highway 53.
According to a release from ODOT, drivers and pedestrians can expect various intermittent lane and sidewalk closures with lane shifts expected on Rodeo Drive and Oak Main Avenue until the fall of 2021.
ODOT will preserve local business access during the construction, however there maybe some parking that will be closed due to the ongoing construction.
Officials with ODOT said the speed limit will be reduced in the work zone and drivers should be alert while there is equipment and workers on the roadway.
Ralls said in a meeting previously that this is a partnership between ODOT and the city of Comanche which will combine funds from the local government and federal funds.
It was also awarded a grant in 2019 through the Transportation Alternatives Program and that will help complete the nearly $992,000 contracted work.
Schiralli Construction Corp. out of Wilson, Oklahoma was awarded the bid and will be the ones completing the project.
