Troopers with Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reported one fatality after a motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon.

According to OHP, the accident happened around 11:52 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12 on U.S. Highway 81, just 1.2 miles south of Marlow in Stephens County.

Reports show the 2008 Triumph motorcycle was driven by Billy F. Spieler (SIC), 78, of Nocona, Texas. The trooper’s narrative shows Spieler was traveling south on the highway with a group of motorcycles and “when the group went to slow down, the driver … was not paying attention, he had to slam on his breaks causing him to slide on the roadway.”

The same report shows after the sliding, the motorcycle “flipped” for an unknown amount of times, coming to rest on its side.

OHP shows the victim was transported by AMR EMS to Duncan Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead in the emergency room.

Stephens County Sheriff's Department, Marlow Police Department, Marlow Fire Department and AMR EMS all helped respond to the scene.
