A local Stephens County resident received a momentous honor this past year, giving him an outstanding opportunity.

Carl Lee, of Marlow, was selected by staff in the Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired (SBVI) office in Chickasha as their client of the year. The Chickasha office serves the Marlow area.

SBVI is a division of the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services.

Lee was nominated by SBVI Counselor Leonido P. Tomagos who assisted him with bilateral cataract surgery, eye drops and glasses that enabled Lee to continue full-time employment as a truck driver with ARCOSA Trucking Company.

The surgery corrected vision issues so that Lee can continue to do his job safely and efficiently.

“Now Mr. Lee can see to do his job better without any barriers or impediments to employment,” Tomagos said.

Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services annually serves more than 73,000 Oklahomans with disabilities through career planning, employment, education and Independent living programs and the determination of medical eligibility for Social Security disability benefits.
