A Comanche man now sits in the Stephens County Jail on a $100,000 bond after authorities say he spanked a child so hard with a wooden back scratcher that it broke.

According to court records, Ricky Leon Allen Jr., 36, of Comanche, faces a charge of child abuse. Child abuse is punishable by imprisonment in the Department of Corrections not exceeding life, or by imprisonment in the county jail not exceeding one year or by a fine of not less than $500 nor more than $5,000 or both such a fine and imprisonment.

Documentation shows a Stephens County deputy was dispatched to a local hospital in regards to child abuse around 2:40 p.m. May 12. When deputies arrived on scene, they found a child, age 6, along with its mother. The mother told deputies when she got home around 7:30 p.m., the child told her what happened. The child told the mother they went to make a younger sibling a snack while Allen slept and when he woke up and found out what happened, he put the child in the corner and

spanked them with a wooden back scratcher until it "broke” leaving “bright red … welts.”

That’s when the child was taken to the hospital.

Around 10:29 a.m. May 14, deputies approached Allen at his residence and asked if he would like to tell them what happened. Allen immediately told lawmen he spanked the child and left bruises.

He was then placed under arrest.

Allen returns to court for a preliminary hearing conference at 9 a.m. July 15, 2020.
