Heartbeat Dance Studio announced its 2020 recital will take place Saturday, May 16.
Chelsea Shores, with Heartbeat, said COVID-19 has changed the yearly recital a little bit, but the show must go on, especially in their 35th anniversary season.
“Due to the current situation our recital looks very different this year, but we are excited to be the first event back at the Simmons Center since this whole thing started,” Shores said.
Since March 23, dancers with the studio took part in vital classes.
“Our students have been excited to have dance class,” Shores said. “They have been able to see their friends and still have regular live dance classes online.”
In the interim, they prepared for the 2020 recital. Even with some differences and restrictions in place, Shores said they’re happy to have the opportunity to perform.
“Our recital usually is a full house for all three shows we produce,” Shores said. “This was not an option anymore due to the social distancing guidelines in place. We developed a modified recital plan that would allow us to have five small shows and limit our dancers to 30 per show, thus resulting in a small audience to keep everyone distanced.”
The five small shows are scheduled for Saturday, May 16. Show times for this Saturday are as follows:
• 9 a.m. — Preschool showcase
• 11:30 a.m. — Grade school showcase
• 2 p.m. — Grade school, high school showcase
• 4:30 p.m. — Company showcase
• 7 p.m. — Company showcase
