A special Duncan City Council meeting introduced two new faces to the board and also decided who would take over this year as Duncan’s new vice mayor.

Municipal Judge Joe Enos swore newcomers Jennifer Smith and Nick Fischer onto the board during the Monday night meeting. Smith will take Ward 1, which was formerly Jimmy Peters seat, and Fischer will take Ward 2 after beating out Brad Bull on election night. Ward 2 previously belonged to Councilman Dr. Mike Nelson.

After swearing in both Smith and Fischer and the signing of official documentation, Peters and Nelson left their posts and joined the crowd as Smith and Fischer found their new seats in council chambers.

From there, selecting a new vice mayor took place. Former Vice Mayor Patty Wininger nominated Councilwoman Lindsay Hayes for the position. The motion passed 5-0 and Hayes replaced Wininger as Vice Mayor for the 2020-2021 year.

The board also presented plaques to both Peters and Nelson for their service on the Duncan City Council.

The next regular meeting will take place at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 14.
