As part of Founder’s Day activities, Chisholm Trail Music will sponsor “Battle of the Bands.”

According to Carol Wright, owner of Chisholm Trail Music and organizer of the event, this is the seventh year for the competition, which showcases local talent and is fun for performers and the audience alike.

For a $35 entry fee, each band will have the opportunity to play three songs.

A panel of four judges will determine a winner based on audience instrumentals, vocals, professionalism, originality and audience response.

Performers are encouraged to bring along their fan base, Wright said, because the bigger the crowd the more exciting the event will be.

Jimmy Akers will serve as master of ceremonies for the competition, which will begin at 2 p.m.

Shaded canopies will cover the stage area, located in the parking lot to the east of the music store in the 900 block of Willow.

The audience is encouraged to take lawn chairs. Bottled water and soft drinks will be sold. There will be drawings for gift certificates, merchandise and specialty items.

Four bands have entered so far, but more are expected, and entries will be accepted until Friday evening by contacting Wright at 580-252-1119.

Bands performing include Replacement 101, a pop/punk group; Blind Stitch, entered as pro-rock; Oblivious, punk; and Suitable Silence, calling themselves “post hardcore scream-o.”

“There’s been a wide array of talent and a wide array of styles on our stage as the years have gone by,” Wright said. Eddie Mullins of Springboard will provide sound. The winning band will receive a trophy and a cash prize, as well as the opportunity to open for Summer Breeze at the street dance Saturday evening.
