Encouraging unity and coming together during difficult times is the purpose of the City of Duncan’s recent #DunCANtogether efforts. The hashtag has shifted from a physical fitness effort led by local firefighters to broader initiatives that include all members of the community.
“Fostering a sense of togetherness is important here in Duncan and we’re encouraging residents to use the hashtag on their social posts,” said Kimberly Meek, City of Duncan. “Hosting inclusive events like our Cops and Bobbers youth fishing tournament event earlier this month, giving residents opportunities for dialogue and keeping our citizens informed about the pandemic has happened both in person and via social media platforms. The hashtag has taken on another meaning for Duncan and we want to keep it trending.”
Sharing family activities, neighborhood events that reflect social distancing and peaceful expressions of unity are examples of the types of content to share. Positive content that highlights Duncan’s parks, the business community, local things to do and images of church and family life can further unite all who call Duncan home.
“Through the COVID-19 pandemic, concern about the oldest and youngest members of our community and conversations about civil rights, we become stronger together,” said Meek. “We hope this will help foster community connection, even as we continue physically, socially distancing.”
