The Hospital Volunteers of Oklahoma recently announced and recognized 19 volunteers from around Oklahoma at the 2019 Volunteers with Spirit. Among them was well known Duncanite, Betty Apple.
The awards were presented during the Hospital Volunteer Day meeting, which was hosted Nov. 13 at the Oklahoma Hospital Association Annual Convention.
According to Hospital Volunteers of Oklahoma, the award is presented to volunteers “who exemplify the spirit of service and have a passion for the work they do for their organizations.”
“Volunteers with Spirit winners bring something special to their local hospital auxiliaries by standing out from the rest in what they do, how they do it or why they do it,” states the organization.
Each volunteer auxiliary for hospitals in Oklahoma were allowed to select one person for the award.
Apple has an annual award presented in her name known in Duncan as the Betty Apple Excellence in Nursing Award. Established by Apple’s family to honor her many years of nursing service, this annual award is presented to DRH RN’s that exhibit the highest quality of nursing excellence.
Apple has also been recognized, alongside her husband, Ed, as the 2015 recipient of The Lifetime Achievement Award through the Duncan Chamber of Commerce. The award honors Duncan’s finest who “enhance our quality of life with their contributions and volunteer services.”
Apple also took home the Liberty Bell Award in 2013.
These are just a few of the accolades Apple has taken home throughout her extensive career.
